Chris and Brittney, both special education teachers, originally met in Wilmington before graduating and moving to Denver, CO. The Port City drew them back to Eastern North Carolina when it was time for their wedding.
Brittney says, “My husband and I currently live in Denver, CO and traveled to Wilmington for our wedding. We met in Wilmington and both attended college there. My husband lived in Wilmington his whole life until recently and I lived there about 6 years. This made us want to have our wedding there!” She says that they originally met “At Port City Java, a coffee shop in Wilmington. I was working and my husband came in and asked me on a date.” (Follow up question: Did he get coffee too or just straight up ask for a date?)
The couple was given a really neat wedding present by Chris’ aunt who painted parts of the wedding. Brittney says, “The paintings were done by Brenda Behr, my husband’s aunt. We were excited to have her paint our wedding as a gift.”
There’s one photo of the day that stands out to Brittney. She says her favorite is “the black and white photo of us under the umbrella (seen below). We were out in the garden taking pictures and all of a sudden out of nowhere it started to pour down rain. We ran for inside. Our photographer Erin, and her assistant Kristen, were so wonderful and determined to get photos that they stood out in the pouring rain just to get the photos. It was a funny, and romantic moment mixed together.”
