Imagine your perfect wedding day. Magnificent, isn’t it? Now imagine your perfect day ruined by people who don’t know what they’re doing and imagine the stress of going through that. Not magnificent.
ECB isn’t into scare tactics and we’re not trying to terrify you into doing something you don’t want to do. We just want you to have the best wedding possible. Sometimes that might mean raining on your budget parade.
It’s true that professionals cost more. Not to be overly dramatic, but professional doctors cost more too. Why haven’t you gone to see the amateur doctor yet?
OK, that was overly dramatic. And preachy. And pretentious. The sentiment is there though. You hire experts in other professions, so why not hire experts for your wedding day? It’s one of the most important days of your life!
Here are five reasons to hire wedding professionals:
Experience: Wedding pros have way more experience than whatever distant relative you’ve asked to do these tasks. That experience will turn into quality and peace of mind. Something quirky always (always!) happens at weddings, no matter how well-planned they are, and pros will be better prepared to adapt and continue with minimal disruption. Non-pros will have more quirks and they’ll be unable to adapt.
Scale: Your aunt might have experience cooking for your large immediate family of 15 but that’s totally different than cooking for 150. Everything is bigger when it comes to weddings and that’s the wrong time to find out that your appointed non-pro isn’t up to the job.
Wedding Specialists: Even choosing a skilled professional from a related field can cause problems. Family photographers, club DJs, and party planners can all be good at their jobs and still fail at weddings because they’re unfamiliar with the specific intricacies that need to be understood to put on a successful wedding.
Stress: You don’t need more stress. Wedding day stress is plentiful. All the preps, the time crunch, watching the weather. It’s stressful. If your selected non-pro fails to properly execute their task, you’ll be the one who has to deal with it.
Enjoyment of guests/family: The people who fill the non-pro roles will probably be people who are invited to the wedding. That means they won’t be basking in the love created by you and your new spouse, they’ll be working. Your girlfriend from college will be doing makeup and hair, your sister will be baking the cake, and your dad will be running around with a video camera. Uncool.
Yes, there’s the budget issue. Hiring professionals costs money. Everybody has the budget issue in one form or another. It’s a valid problem but trust us, you’re not the only one who’s ever faced it.
Choices will need to be made. You could cut down your guest list from 150 to 100. You could change your open bar to a beer and wine bar with cash liquor. You could cut out that 1200 pound ice sculpture. Yes, you even have the option to cut a pro or two.
You’ll face a million options as you plan your wedding. Hiring real, quality wedding professionals isn’t a decision you’ll regret.
