Joe and Roni are the luckiest people in the world. They won a free (yes, free!) wedding provided by craft store AC Moore.
How did that come about? Roni says, “I’m an AC Moore addict and while reading one of their emails I saw a promotion for their video contest to win a wedding. The contest was to make a 1-minute video about your love story. We made our video, incorporating our love for creating and crafting, thinking it was a fun and creative project but not expecting to win. The next thing we knew, they called us and told us we had won! It was so surreal, like a dream come true!”
The couple, who originally met when they were students at the University of Maryland, traveled down to Emerald Isle for the festivities. They didn’t get to choose their wedding location but that was OK. AC Moore chose the perfect one anyway. Roni says, “Although we didn’t get to choose the location, the Crystal Coast was the perfect location for our prize wedding. Joe and I have a passion for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Five years ago, while on a hike in the Catoctin Mountains, Joe asked me to be his girlfriend sitting next to a stream. He then asked me to marry him next to a 130-foot waterfall in the Pocono Mountains. We then said our vows on the Crystal Coast next to the ocean. Water has felt symbolic in our relationship, it continues to grow as we change and move through our lives together.”
Another fun, unique aspect of winning their wedding is that it was attended by several wedding journalists. “It was interesting to see our family interact with the media and welcome them as part of the family, says Roni. “Also, the media was very respectful and let us have our time with family to celebrate our marriage. It was amazing because at no point did it feel awkward, it felt just as any other wedding we’d attended.”
