Tradition and minimalism. Those were the two themes of Coast Guard members Michael and Jessica’s Atlantic Beach wedding.
Jessica went back generations in honoring the women of her family in the details of wedding day. She says, “Many of our detail pictures were taken on my grandmother’s pin box with her maiden name calling card. We also used vintage handkerchiefs; one my grandmother carried on her wedding day, and the other my great-grandmother made with handmade tatted lace. My bouquet was wrapped in tatted lace made by my great-grandmother. My mother made our wedding cake using my grandmother’s famous pound cake recipe, the same used at my mother’s wedding.”
Their best decision for the wedding was to keep it simple and let Atlantic Beach be the star. Jessica says, “Besides deciding on Celebration Cottage and our amazing wedding planner, Zena, it would be sticking to our minimalist theme and not trying to out-do the beauty of the venue. It saved us stress and money, and our guests enjoyed the refreshing simplicity and laid-back atmosphere! Also- the pictures were fantastic with all the natural light and clean lines!”
The best piece of advice they were given leading up to the wedding was to avoid wedding blogs. (Hey, wait… that’s us!) Jessica says, “Don’t fall into the trap of what others/blogs/tradition says you ‘must’ do! Do what feels right for you. Choose your priorities and invest your time and money on those things. It will help you stress less, save money, and focus on what is actually important to you!”
