Today’s Real East Carolina Bride entry comes to us from Caroline, a bride whose Kinston wedding is coming up in October 2016.
My name is Caroline Thutt, and I will be marrying Johnston King on October 8, 2016. Johnston and I were introduced to each other online, and we immediately bonded over a shared love of my alma mater–UNC-Chapel Hill. As Johnston lived in Wilson and then Chapel Hill and I lived in New Bern, we became all too familiar with the challenges of a long-distance relationship. In our case, distance really has made the heart grow fonder. Johnston and I dated for 2 and ½ years before he proposed on December 31, 2015. The proposal wasn’t grand or dramatic, but it was perfectly us. He surprised me after I finished a long day of work by proposing in the same spot where he told me that he loved me for the first time—in my kitchen and with my 4 year-old chocolate lab right in the middle of it all. We then celebrated our engagement that evening with my parents and their closest friends in Kinston.
At the end of this week, I will be leaving my hometown for the past 6 years and moving back to Chapel Hill. Johnston works at UNC, and I will be working at a physical therapy clinic in nearby Durham. Our wedding will take place in my home church, First Presbyterian Church, in Kinston. Our reception will then be held at the Kinston Country Club. I have been dreaming of my wedding day since I was a little girl, and I cannot believe that it will actually be happening in 8 short months. I am most looking forward to creating a family with Johnston. What is most concerning at the moment is learning how to live in close quarters with someone again after living by myself for the past 9 years. I know that my upcoming move will be an adjustment for all three of us (including my pup Emma), but there is no one I would rather be going through this with than Johnston.
