Today’s Real East Carolina Bride entry comes to us from Caroline, a bride whose Kinston wedding is coming up in October 2016.
Johnston and I were lucky enough to have Bob and Amanda (of Open Aperture Photography (ECB/Web)) travel all the way to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for our engagement session. UNC-Chapel Hill has always been a special place to me. I grew up going to Carolina sporting events with my dad and brother, and I had the honor of graduating from there with my Bachelor’s degree in 2006. UNC-Chapel Hill has also been a special place for Johnston, particularly now as he is living out his dream of working there.
We chose a Sunday evening in April for our engagement session as I knew the flowers around campus would be in full bloom, including the beautiful hot pink azaleas surrounding the Old Well. What I did not anticipate was that dozens of graduating seniors would have the same idea and would be lined up at the Old Well to have their graduation pictures taken. Amanda volunteered to stand in line for the Old Well shots while Bob took photos of us in front of South Building, the Davie Poplar, and in front of the aforementioned hot pink azaleas. My favorite photograph taken of us in that part of campus was the black-and-white one on the steps of South Building. Sure, the couple in the photograph look good, but what I love so much about this particular photograph is how beautifully the 202-year-old building is portrayed. In my opinion, this picture is a classic.
After a quick wardrobe change, Johnston and I then had a few more photos taken in a place that is very special to us both—Kenan Memorial Stadium. Johnston and I both grew up going to UNC football games in Kenan Stadium with our families, so many fond memories have been made there over the years. It was fortuitous that the spring football game had been the day before our photoshoot as the field was painted and in picture-perfect condition. The sun set during our time in the stadium, and Bob was able to capture a unique photo of us standing at the 50-yard line with what appeared to be a spotlight shining down to highlight our touching moment. I can’t wait to hang this particular photograph on our living room wall.
I am also planning on having bridal portraits taken in New Bern, North Carolina, once I have had my final dress fitting. By this time it will be summer in Eastern North Carolina. I will have to brave not only the heat but also the mosquitoes. If I don’t melt from the heat and humidity, I’m sure these photos will be just as lovely as our engagement photos.
